What is this Site?

Welcome!

SkaarjMonuments.com is a site devoted to the creation, sharing and discussion of Unreal 1 maps. Although the site is still under development, in the future it will include: an extensive usermap archive, where nearly every web-published map can be found in an easy-to-use format; many reviews of new (and some old) maps based on a structured grading system; and links to tons of mapping resources. This site was very-much inspired by the OldUnreal website and probably would not have existed without the hard efforts contributed by the site's administrators and members.

SkaarjMonuments.com News

May 24, 2008

Well it is officially the 10 year aniversary of the release of the original Unreal, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! The forums have been changed to a better theme which suits Unreal (check it out!) and I have added a new review for DmLostInSoul which can be obviously found in the review sections.

March 14, 2008

I added a new 'Map Pack' section in the Usermaps area. I do not normally post maps for UT (as this site specifially applies to Unreal1) however I made an exeption and posted the UT Modern Pack (many thanks to its creator Lightning Hunter) which is a compolation of map by Krull, BeWilderBeest and myself modefied and converted for Unreal Tournament. Hope you enjoy and post me if you have other map packs for release and I will gladly put it up!

March 4, 2008

Upon a request for the creation of a DM level centered around the USS Voyager, I created a new section in the forums titled 'Map Ideas/Requests', where people can make requests and suggestions to mappers for the creation of new levels.

February 22, 2008

I have axed the shoutbox as it seems that someone has been trying to use it to hack the site (really low buddy, I have done nothing to deserve this!). The website will not be in up and running order until I find a solution to this problem (or the hacker kills my website). Everyone be warned as I do not wish this to happen to anyone else!

February 21, 2008

A few new areas have been added to the website and include an updated walkthrough section, textures and UnrealEd tutorials section. A couple of new maps were put into the review board and I also posted the most recent test release of the 227 patch.

February 3, 2008

I fixed a few of the pages which were not loading properly in the maps section and I updated the links section to have a cool new layout (much better than before). I have also began my UnrealEd Tutorial section (comming soon) which will be UnrealEd tutorials written by me using every UEd resource I can find. I hope to consolidate the information which is scattered in numerous help files as well provide the original files as a backup reference (in case I am writing in tounges :P .

January 11, 2008

The usermap section is finally DONE!! After many months of work I currently have over 2,600 maps indexed in the archive and I expect it to only grow in the future. Now that the bulk of the mapping section is done, I can focus on other aspect of the website. Since the last update, I found a good shoutbox which fit the website and managed to get it running nicely, BONUS!

January 5, 2008

I added a random map section to the main page to try and make it more convenient for users to grab a map quickly. I am in the process to also create a message board on this website but I have only been hitting dead ends so far. If anyone knows how to create the code for such a board, I would be very greatful to find out. Cheers!

January 4, 2008

Happy New Year to all! I have added a couple of reviews to the rest and can be found in the 'Featured' section. I have also added the 227 patch to the patch downloads section as well. I am getting close to finnishing the maps section and I am already at over 2,100 maps (Currently on the 'T' section)! I hope to keep improving this site in the future but all of your feedback is valuable in doing this. Cheers!

December 30, 2007

Well it has been some time since I last made a report so here it is! I have been working on the site inbetween and now have the deathmatch maps done up to 'P'. I have also added some new reviews, so check it out! Thanks to BeWilderBeest for submitting his review!

September 29, 2007

The deathmatch maps are now done up to and including 'G' (which, in terms of numbers is about one third of all of them...) and I will maybe have some time this week to get a letter or two done. I reviewed a couple more maps, which can be found in the featured and review sections.

September 26, 2007

After spending literally hours, I finally got the usermap search tool to work properly. Now results can be paginated and sorted without going back to the main search page (woohoo!). I will be getting back to inputing more maps into the archive sometime next week. I am still in the works of creating a script which increases the number of downloads for a given map for each time it is downloaded.

September 23, 2007

Well the 'D' section is now completed within the deathmatch maps and I have two new reviews of some great maps in the featured maps section. Hope you enjoy!

September 22, 2007

I have created a new search tool for the usermaps section. The tool is still in development, but I thought that I would put it up anyway. Let me know what you think! The usermaps had another update and about 200 more maps were indexed. I would really like to get back to some more reviews, however just getting this site running has taken nearly all of my spare time! I anyone out there has a map review that they want to be shown as the level of the week, send it on over!

September 13, 2007

I just ploughed through the coop maps, for a total of 221 maps. This may not sound like much, but it feels like an accomplishment! I feel that the database design has a few flaws, such as the titles of the maps being their real title, not the filename, however this will do for now and can wait until later. If anyone would like to help me with the database, please let me know, I need all the help I can get! The search function for the usermaps is still a work in progress as I have been playing with code in order to get the search tool to do what I want.

September 6, 2007

Well it may seem that not much work has been done on the website (the review section mainly), however there is more than meets the eye. I have just finished scripting the usermaps section so it connects to my growing usermaps database and allows you to sort maps by author, rating, name, and file size. I am currently working on the search tool, where you can search the entire database for your favorite authors work, get maps with a minimal rating and much more! Keep you posted on the progress, and feel free to send me your maps and reviews to add to the database!

August 30, 2007

The "Blast from the Past" map has been updated (a little late...) and I am just finishing uploading all of the usermaps (thanks to DIEHARD over at the Celtic Warriors website). I will continue to slowly update the usermap pages but please be patient (this takes forever since I have to get all of the info from each individual file, try going through about 2000 files!).

August 26, 2007

I made a few changes to the website, including adding a search tool, making the site a little easier to navigate (will be increasingly useful as the site grows). I am still in the process of learning PHP and MySQL well enough to get a good usermap database created and various PHP queries to access and display the database information (if anyone knows MySQL and PHP, and wants to help, please e-mail me). I intend to get the other map types up on the website within the next couple of weeks.

August 23, 2007

Since my last entry, I added the "#" section to the usermaps, created e-mail forms (to hopefully prevent spam!) and tweaked the look of the site a little bit. I am currently working on writing a script to organize the usermaps a little better and to try and create a search tool, to make the map section a little more manageable. Check out the new "Blast from the Past" map!

August 16, 2007

Made a pretty big update, which inludes the first "Map of the Week" and "Blast from the Past" selection in the Featured section! I also added all of the "A" maps in the map archive (sorry there are just so many!) Hope you enjoy!

August 12, 2007

Today I added a bunch more content and you can probably see the site beginnig to fill out (although much work still needs to be done). I am currently scouting map reviewers to assist in reviewing maps whenever they feel fit (contact me if you are interested). As, for the site formate, I feel satisfied (for now) and I will let it stay unless anyone is having troubles.

August 10, 2007

Made a lot of changes to the format of the webpage. I am not sure whether the format suits most viewers requirements (i.e. screen resolution). If you have trouble viewing the page because of your screen resolution, please e-mail me and I will do my best to accomodate you. I am still in the process of finding the proper code for the usermap archive and a lot of the other pages have not been completed... I intend to create new images for the site logo and new backgrounds for the main pages. If you have any comments or questions dont hesitate to e-mail me.

SkaarjMonuments.com lives!! After a lot of fussing about the website is beginning to take on some kind of form. The site is far from complete, however it should be up and running in no time! Cheers!
